I have always been a big fan of the Chinese version of tapas – dim sum. So on our recent visit to Toronto, we discovered a cool restaurant in the Metropolitan Hotel where we were staying called Lai Wah Heen. And boy, I’m glad we did!
The only challenge I have with tapas and dim sum is the extensive menu and deciding what to order. Lai Wah Heen is no exception. The menu is HUGE! There were probably 40-50 items offered for lunch alone. I also noticed they have some incredibly creative price fixe dinner menus that I would love to try sometime. The decor at Lai Wah Heen is upscale and clean and very bright. We ended up ordering around 14 different items, so I won’t go into a lot of detail. But I have to say that the presentation was fun and interesting. From lobster stuffed dumplings that looked like little lobsters, to crispy pork stuffed dumplings that looked like little piggies, the look of the dishes were only exceeded by the taste. Delicious! We ordered a few duck dishes that were dynamite as were the crispy pork belly and shrimp and sunflower seed dumplings.
Probably the best dim sum I have ever eaten. Not the cheapest, but well worth the money in my humble opinion. Highly recommended. For now, back to the cage.
