There are a handful of music artists that I never get tired of seeing in concert. Spanish guitar phenom Jesse Cook is definitely one of them.
We had the pleasure of catching Jesse Cook and his talented band play Centre In the Square Kitchener this past Friday evening. We have seen him in concert four times now and once again, he put on a fantastic show. This was my first visit to Centre In The Square, and it was a nice concert venue. Decent sized theatre with excellent acoustics – especially for this type of flamenco rumba jazz music.
There always seems to be something new and cool to experience at a Jesse Cook concert. At this show he brought along guest vocalist Emma-Lee to perform a couple tunes from his new record. What a beautiful voice! Takes you back to the sound of vintage jazz vocalists like Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday. Emma-Lee also performed a couple of her own songs solo to open the show, which were great too.
And thanks to my wife, we also had a nice little treat to close out the show. I can always count on her to find a way to make a great night even better. Our seats for the show were dead center – but around twenty rows back. She noticed four lower balcony seats right next to the stage were unoccupied. So at the intermission, she went to the box office to inquire about their availability. And as luck would have it – the seats were ours for the taking! During the final encore, Jesse and the band came down to the audience and played their final song right in front of us. Awesome way to end an awesome concert.
Jesse Cook always puts on an excellent show. Highly recommended. For now, back to the cage.
