Neros Steakhouse Caesars Windsor – A Cut Above

By -

I have mentioned in previous posts how much I enjoy dining at an upscale steakhouse. So when making our dinner arrangements for the night of the Amanda Marshall concert, I was pretty quick to make reservations at Neros Steakhouse in Caesars Windsor.

In addition to the obvious – totally convenient location when catching a show at the Colosseum – I had heard good things about dining at Neros. The decor is very posh and classy, just like a great steakhouse should be. Lots of wood and natural light, comfortable chairs and embroidered bench seating, crisp white linens, nice artwork, and lists goes on. If the food meets the standards set by the decor and ambiance, we should be in great shape.

We decided to order a couple salads to start our meal. We chose the Smoked Vidmar Farms Mushroom Salad featuring Smoked Mushrooms, House Dried Tomatoes, Goat Cheese and Toasted Pine Nuts and the Peppered Bison Carpaccio with Salt Roasted Beets featuring Macadamia Nut Oil, Shaved Parmesan and Vanilla Sea Salt. The Mushroom Salad was excellent – super flavourful with just the right amount of smokiness. Always love the contrast between sweet and savoury sun dried tomatoes and rich and tangy goat cheese.

And the Bison Carpaccio was delicious too. The colourful presentation was a fantastic segue to the flavourful dish awaiting our taste buds. I love cured meats like prosciutto, and the Bison had a similar texture and a light pastrami-like flavour. With Bison being so lean, I was surprised by the amount of flavour. Worked really well with the beets and the hint of vanilla. Parmesan was top shelf too.

For our main courses, when in Rome, or when in Neros as it were, we ordered a couple steaks. I went with the Shawn Morris Farms Dry Aged Ribeye and Sandra ordered the Certified Angus Filet with a little Blue Cheese topping to set things off. Both steaks were cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered and were incredibly tender with nice outside charring. The steaks came with buttered baby red potatoes and a rich and tasty red wine sauce. We just ordered as our side the Pan Flashed Wild Mushrooms & Roasted Garlic, which was the perfect compliment to our steaks.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the outstanding wine list at Neros. Our big and beautiful Aussie Cab was the ideal foil for the rich beef. We rounded out our meal with a couple magic coffees and sampled a very decadent Praline and Berry Pie with velvety chocolate ice cream. Excellent meal all around! And the service was great too – perfectly paced courses and our server was attentive yet unintrusive. Highly recommended! For now, back to the cage.
